Current Information:Age-20 48, Strathville Road, Earlsfield Hebuterne Military Cemetery, France On 20th June, 1916, 1st London of 167 Brigade, 56th Division were in divisional reserve at Halloy where preparations for the forthcoming Somme offensive were in full swing. Large working parties were a feature of their stay here, digging jump-off trenches and bringing up supplies. The enemy was well aware of these preparations and did their best to disrupt them with their artillery and everyday the casualty list rose. Charles Houghton was added to this list on 20th June when he was killed. |
